EW: Gillian Anderson cast as Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier
Gillian Anderson is guesting in Hannibal in a multi-episode arc. Anderson is going
to play Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier - Hannibal
Lecter’s own therapist. “Every therapist needs their own head examined and we are ecstatic that Gillian Anderson has chosen Hannibal
to mark her return to American television after 10 years to portray Dr.
Lecter’s personal psychiatrist,” Fuller said in a statement. “Her
intelligence and sophistication, not to mention her pedigree of
ground-breaking TV, make her the perfect actress to match wits and
psychological manipulations with one of the greatest villains of pop
culture. I couldn’t be more excited.”

This is a case of things coming full circle and is really neat since the X-Files creator Chris Carter was inspired by Silence of the Lambs to use FBI agents as the leads in his series, to provide the characters with a plausible reason for being involved in each case.

Eddie Izzard (wonderful actor, mad charity marathon runner and hopefully the future Mayor of London) is guesting in Hannibal as an inmate at the Baltimore State Hospital for the
Criminally Insane (the same facility where Hannibal Lecter is
eventually incarcerated). Izzard’s character is claiming to be “the
infamous Chesapeake Ripper.”
Izzard recently starred on NBC in another Bryan Fuller project, starring as Grandpa Munster in Mockingbird Lane.
